Silverton Cat Skiing

Silverton Powder Cats - Silverton Colorado

Silverton Cat Skiing is a very special cat ski operation, operated by its two owners since 1997, Todd and John. Silverton Powdercats keep their cat groups small - just ten, and their snow fresh in a beautiful tenure off the summit of Molas Pass (Highway 550), just seven miles from the town of Silverton. Powdercats of Silverton have one mission in mind: minimum cat time and maximum ski time. Silverton Cat Skiing Photos

You start your day boarding the cat, and soon you are skiing their vast terrain of the snowy San Juans, and Grand Turk Mountain. In the distance you can see Purgatory Durango Mountain, and the extraordinary Engineer Peak, The Sisters and Twilight Peaks. From here you have run after run of soft snow, great camaraderie and your own snow coach to deliver you back up after each descent.

You should be a strong advanced intermediate skier or rider at minimum as  you will be skiing everything from wide open bowls, trees, chutes and a few steep powder shots.
It is highly  recommended, by the Guides and us, to use fat powder skis, which can be rented in nearby Durango or Silverton ski shops.

Lunch, two guides and safety equipment are all included in your day of cat skiing with Silverton Powdercats for about $355. You can expect to get about 10 -12 runs from elevations of 12,500'. Your Powdercats Guide provide you with avalanche beacons and a brief safety protocol and peeps check, probes and shovels are not required. Your Powdercat day starts at 9am, with a return ski typically at 3:30-4pm. You can expect to make quick friends with your
snow cat cabin mates, enjoying your return trips to the top with fellow skiers and snowboarders in the cat . Lunch, a mountainside picnic, is served mid day and water and drinks are available throughout. Your cat skiing group size is small and semi-private at just 10 per snow cat, a Piston Bully. You can also charter your own snowcat for the day, a truly private and perfect cat ski experience.

At the end of your day, instead of a long ride back to the base, unlike most other cat ski companies,
you ski right back to the Powdercats parking lot and base camp.

Silverton Powdercats is located just 15 minutes from the town of Silverton, and 30 minutes from Purgatory Durango Mountain Resort, under two hours from Telluride. We recommend a day of cat skiing with Silverton Powdercats as a great add on during your family ski vacation at nearby Durango Mountain Resort. Or do a day of cat skiing after skiing at Silverton Mountain Ski Area if you want a day with less climbing.
