Love Rossignol

My love affair with Rossi!

It’s true, I love Rossignol, the skis, the ski apparel, the French-ness. My first pair of skis I ever purchased, not hand-me-downs from my brothers, were Rossi FP’s. I was 17, they were 200-centimeters long, teal, man… I loved those bright bold skinny skis. That was the 80’s and I was a college gal at UVM, and a ski instructor at Smugglers Notch on weekends.

I loved Rossignol apparel too – so stylish, French in design – technical but chic. My coolest ski jacket ever?! A zebra print parka designed by Jean Charles Castelbajac, or JC for those in the know! Such a head turner, bright red with a big furry hood and two zebra heads! Wow, I was a hit at après ski in Verbier, a giraffe wanted to do shot skis with me! Now my ski clothing taste is more sublime, classic Rossi, tailored – not so zoo-ey, but still bright and bold.

Second favorite pair of skis? The Rossi Experience – a genius fleet of skis. I’ve skied on the dynamic 88s, and the ladies version Rossi Temptation 88s – so much fun – grippy and rippy front side carvers for skiing the East. Then enter the Rossi 98 Experience – the ideal all mountain ski as I began skiing out west more, Big Sky, Vail, Telluride, Snowbird, Alta, Powder.

Finally I stepped up to a fatter powder style ski, since I was skiing more in Vail Colorado than East Coast Sunday River or Stowe. The Rossignol Soul 7 HDW brought me float and fun in powder conditions, and just the right smear for spring slush and corn. Did I mention my Rossignol ski boots? The Rossi Pure Pro ladies’ ski boot is slim fitted, just the right stiffness, but with the softest furry cuff and merino liner. Love at first step, power and performance at each turn.

Confession, I love après ski too! Rossignol makes the most stylish après ski boots, The Megeve! They’ve got sole- literally – fantastic,  no-slip, with fur, leather, vintage grommets, and alpine red laces.  Pair with a vintage Rossi ski sweater, and your ready to rock the Austrian après ski scene– which is the best we’ve encountered so far… but we’re not done “researching”!

Rossi has been making ski gear since 1907. I’ve been a loyal Rossi lover since…well, I started skiing at age 3, so 5 decades and counting. I’m counting my ski days too – skiing my age in days each winter. I’m also tracking the number of ski resorts I’ve skied. I’m up to 215! How about you?! Next stop – skiing Spain, Baqueira Beret in the Pyrenees on the French Spain border, on my French Rossi skis.
