We look forward to our March 2026 to visit and ski Monterosa and will update this page with firsthand reviews after our visit.
Monterosa is a sizeable Italian ski resort, with180km of lift-linked pistes between four valleys – Val d’Ayas, Gressoney, Sesia and Champorcher, skiing up to 3,275m, offering spectacular views across Aosta Valley and the Piedmont range.
Monterosa is more quiet, off-the-beaten track, resort with a pretty picturesque village, and lots of terrain great for families and freerides alike. Monterosa’s Funifor cable car finally linked the long-planned link circuit between the Valsesia and Gressoney-La Trinite resorts. Col d’Olen at 2,881m (with a record 1,700m vertical ascent) links to Gressoney and Champoluc.
From atop Punta Indren Glacier, make the most of the full 2,000m vertical descent skiing. The Olen and Bors Valleys offer fairly difficult skiing and spectacular off piste opportunities. In fact, Monterosa’s high-altitude terrain, and lifts covering a vast amount of terrain, make it a secret freeride paradise, versus busier, more “discovered” Chamonix or Zermatt. To safely explore this new high-alpine territory, be sure you Hire a certified mountain guide.
Monterosa is part of The Aosta Valley pass, with Cervinia (that links to Zermatt), Pila, La Thuile, Courmayeur, and could be part of an Italian Swiss Alps ski safari.
