Hotel Waldhaus Leukerbad

Leukerbad is one of Switzerland’s most dramatic mountain valleys, with family-friendly ski slopes, panoramic mountain views, and ideal chalet hotel lodging.

Hotel Waldhaus makes for a great family ski trip in Leukerbad, in an historic wood chalet hotel with splendid modern enhancements.

Families will love how convenient the Hotel Waldhaus is, right on the “Promedade” to the ski lift – the Torrent Tram. You can’t lodge closer, and you can ski directly back to the Hotel (for advanced skiers) or download the cable car just steps away.

This classic family-owned chalet hotel offers modern services, with old-world charm. We were warmly greeted by Evelyne and the next generation – her son Joshua and his mate Lorenzo – they couldn’t be more helpful, gracious, and proud of their place.

Our Waldhaus room on the 3rd floor was alpine chic, clean and neat, with a spectacularly scenic balcony to view the morning sunrise over the mountains and Alpen glow each evening. A fluffy down duvet, robes and nice bath amenities promised the right touch of luxury while still being cozy including a bench seating area with carved wooden table.

Skis are stored downstairs along with ski boots in a boot drying room with cozy sheepskin covered benches to start and end your ski preparation – very convenient for families gearing up.

For parents, the half board package offered at Waldhaus creates a truly stress-free holiday, without the worry of making dinner reservations in town with tired hungry kids. Dinner is served with a kid’s menu and more sophisticated culinary offerings and wine for mom and dad. The cuisine prepared for us each night by Master Chef and proprietor Harald was some of the best we’ve had in Switzerland. And in mornings at Waldhaus, breakfast is ready and waiting right downstairs in the mountain view dining room, so kids can go in their slippers and choose from yummy buffet items including breads, pastries, local meats and cheese, granola and yogurt plus fruit.

Even the après ski at Waldhaus is family-friendly at its own on-property “Pischür” – their chic bar with outdoor terrace seating. The kids can play in the snow in clear sight, while adults sip a well-earned aperitif.

Family activities in Leukerbad aside from the obvious skiing include sledding at Leukerbad or taking the Gemmi tram up the scenic plateau. There is also the family friendly “Leukerbad Therme” facility with pools, waterslides and kid-oriented features. Leukerbad ski resort has a vibrant learn to ski and ski school program as well as a SnowPark and fun zones incorporated in the ski terrain.

We enjoyed skiing Leukerbad and exploring this incredibly historic village.

From Leukerbad, you can easily ski other Swiss ski areas, on the Magic Pass, including Anzère, Grimentz-Zinal, St-Luc/Chandolin, and many others in the Valais of Switzerland, just two hours from Geneva. You are also near Les 4 Vallees – Switzerland’s largest interconnected ski region – where Epic Pass holders have ski privileges. You can make this region part of your Swiss ski safari and visit several with just an hour’s drive between each.
