Skiing means burning thighs, burning calories, carving snow, then craving thirst and salt on your rim at après ski, right? I can’t think of a better après ski drink than a salty sweet margarita, or a chocolatey espresso martini. Whether you like your après ski beer, martini, or margarita – fruity, strong and straight, or coated with enough salt to de-ice your windshield, here are après ski bars in the East, along with our favorite Mexican joints in the mountains. Best Ski Country Bars!
In Vermont, Okemo serves mountainside pub fare in the base lodge’s Sitting Bull. Okemo is known for its focus on culinary
(not to be confused with “ski area food”). Next door, Tom’s Loft Tavern is local, earthy and fun – s not fancy! In Ludlow, we love Killarney as an Irish après ski pub.
At Sugarloaf, Maine, The Rack serves lots of local brews, along with yummy BBQ. The Rack is snowboarder Seth Wescott’s place – so its casual and cool. Sunday River’s Foggy Goggle has a slope view to watch the stragglers ski down at day’s end, often great bands, a full bar, and a fun vibe!
In Mount Washington Valley, New Hampshire, Red Parka Pub is classic! Just minutes from Cranmore, Attitash, Wildcat, or Black, saddle up to the bar for a drink at this rustic but real local place, the ribs are real good too! Shannon Door in the pretty alpine village of Jackson is another great après ski spot with Irish flair. The Shovel Handle Pub at Black Mountain is historic and happening in an old barn.
Skiers are relaxed but adventurous, so they like to local brews, specialty drinks, and spicy food in a casual atmosphere. Skiers tend to be fun, happy people, and after a day on the slopes – good conversation, laughs and libations are perfection!
In the Rocky Mountains, we love the après ski ambiance of Aspen, Vail, Steamboat, Copper and Breck in Colorado. Park City in Utah has great ski in/ski out bars, so does neighboring Deer Valley.
Of course, the European skiers invented après ski! See our Top Après Ski Bars in the Alps
