Hintertux Glacier is Austria’s only ski area open for skiing 365 days a year on the namesake glacier. Hintertuxer Gletscher (in German) is in the Tyrol Alps of Austria. It takes three panoramic gondolas to reach the top of Hintertux at 10,662′ and its a long ski down- 7,000’ vertical to the base. The coolest thing to do at Hintertux, besides skiing, is to enter the glacier – Hintertux’s Nature Ice Palace 30-meters below the ski slopes. You can take a tour of Hintertux Glacier through frozen caves to waterfalls and ride in a boat on an underground glacial lake 100 meters beneath the ski slopes.
