We look forward to our March 2026 visit to Espace San Bernardo which unites La Thuile and La Rosière (Italy & France). We’ll update this page with first hand reviews after our visit.

La Thuile is nicknamed The Wild Side of Mont Blanc…with its impressive views of the iconic Rutor glacier. Located in the north-western corner of the Aosta Valley, near major northern Italian cities — close to France and Switzerland via the Mont Blanc Tunnel, its easy to reach but secluded.
Espace San Bernardo unites the resorts of La Thuile in the Aosta Valley and La Rosière in Savoie, 152 kilometres of slopes

With 82 slopes, on one international ski pass, 38 modern lifts, and 3 Franco Berthod – one of Italy’s most challenging and steepest at 76% gradient, its an exciting ski resort. The highest point, Mont Valaisan (2,800 m) is reached from the French side via two modern chairlifts, and from La Thuile via Belvedere (2,650 m), a modern Les Suches –Chaz Dura cable car.

An 11-km mountaineering route starts from the Italian side, at Les Suches (2,176 m) and follows a 4-km groomed section in complete safety, reaching the Col du Belvédère (2,558 m). From here, it continues into France along the Carabiniers slope, leading to the start of the Chardonnay chairlift and onwards to the Col de la Traversette, before descending to La Rosière.

La Thuile derives from the Latin tegula, meaning “tile” – traditional stone slabs quarried here as alpine house roof material. Mining activity in La Thuile began as early as the 16th century. Thermal and mineral springs led to spas and baths as well.
