Crans Montana ski resort in Switzerland‘s beautiful Valais region offers skiing on a sunny high plateau, with 34 lifts reaching up to 3000-meters, with amazing views of the surrounding Swiss Alps.
For a traditional Swiss family-owned hotel with a great location near the skiing in the heart of Crans village of Crans Montana resort region, Hotel Ad’Eldorado is ideal.
Eldorado is very family friendly, children are welcome, there’s a relaxed vibe, and you can book half board, with breakfast and dinner included – making dining and logistics easy. The hotel has a living room with fireplace, great for relaxing before dinner. Several extended families were enjoying this space during our visit with their young children. There is also a playroom for kids. Didier is the owner and chef – he’s very accommodating including offering shuttles to the ski slopes and helpful info in English, French or German.
Rooms at Eldorado are classic Swiss, with pine woodwork, minimalist alpine décor, and beautiful mountain views from most upper floor rooms. Larger family suites are available. Traditional down duvets grace the bed, and pleasant amenities in the bath plus a mini-fridge make it homey.
Outside the Hotel is a mountain view terrace where you can play with kids in the snow. Just a short walk or shuttle drive away is the Snow Village family learn to ski area by Crans Montana’s famous golf course. It’s a perfect plateau and setting for beginners and young ski families.
To go skiing at Crans Montana, Didier will shuttle (until 10am) you to the Merbe Cry d’Er gondola in their hotel van. At the end of the day, it is a 10-minute walk back down to the hotel through town. Eldorado’s convenient ski room offers storage for your gear plus dryers for your boots. This helps keep families organized in the mornings and also frees up room in your family accommodations. Half board includes a bountiful breakfast of pastries, yogurt and granola, cheese, meats and salmon, plus fresh cooked eggs and bacon or ham.
Evenings at Eldorado we could enjoy a drink at the bar, or sit by the fireplace in the living room that leads to the mountain view dining room. We looked forward to dinner each night, the plate du jour menu often prepared by Chef Didier- a self-taught cook. We had delicious salmon one night followed by a fabulous warm chocolatey dessert. Traditional fondue or raclette is served weekly with local cheese AOC du Valais. Didier and Lucie Bonvin have operated the hotel for 60 years with pride.
Hotel Ad’Eldorado is family-friendly for your Swiss ski trip, affordable, given how chic and pricey Crans Montana can be, compared to the 5-star Crans Ambassador for example.
Crans Montana is a major ski resort in Valais to visit on a Swiss ski safari including neighboring Anzère, Grimentz Zinal, and other smaller family ski areas in the Rhone valley.
