Nauders is a top quality family ski resort in Austria. This Tyrol ski resort is super family-friendly, incredibly scenic, with a charming alpine village, and vast, fun ski terrain. The skiing at Nauders starts with a long modern gondola up to a mid-mountain plateau. Here families will love the Gold Park and Snow Park beginner areas with animated characters. Its and ideal learning, fun area for families located right at the top of the gondola. Advanced skiers will find lifts emanating from this mid-mountain hub to great ski trails – pistes, tree skiing, and open bowls.

Nauders only drawback is the ski area is one mile from the charming village of Nauders. Of course there is a free shuttle bus, plus there is ample slopeside free parking. We met one three-generation family that was lodging at Nauders base at Edelweiss family farm – a fun educational family stay where you participate in farm chores with the animals. We stayed at Mein Almhof – a large 4-star hotel property in town, with a lovely balcony view of the medieval castle- a beautiful centerpiece of Nauders. Mein Almhof has multiple buildings and several spas, some family and some adults-only, including a rooftop pool. We enjoyed walking the pretty village of Nauders après ski, with just enough ski shops, two markets and some nice restaurants.

Nauders has mostly modern lifts, plus a few T-Bars spread across several peaks. Free riders and off-piste skiers will find plenty of easy to reach terrain at Nauders and a few marked ungroomed “ski routes”. Its best to hire a guide to explore aspects that require a hike. Nauders has some of the best tree skiing we have discovered in Austria. Well-spaced gently pitched, wide open glades to explore all over the mountain.

Dining on mountain, Nauders has several nice ski huts – we had great lunches at the traditional chalet – StierAlm, and the more modern chic restaurant and mountain hotel Jochelius.

Nauders’ entire ski area is one big fun park. It’s not as busy as Austria’s Solden. Kitzbuhel, or Ischgl, which is why we recommend Nauders for young families for a relaxing ski holiday with still plenty of skiing terrain and activities – like sledding. Certain evenings in town there is lighted tubing in the snow park under the iconic medieval castle that is perched above town – a magical setting.

Beautiful views of the Tirol Alps and Italy surround you as you ski Nauders.  If you wish to add more ski resorts to your Nauders family ski trip, there is nearby Schoeneben Italy – along the Reschensee pass. From Nauders, you are also very close to Serfaus Fiss Ladis, and to the Swiss Alps of Samnaun – part of Ischgl , and you’re not far from St Moritz Switzerland.

Nauders is a top Austrian ski resort for a family ski trip, it’s on the Snow Card Tirol as well which includes 90 ski resorts in Austria’s beautiful Tyrol.
